Türkiye’s post-Election Future

This webinar panel will address Türkiye’s post-election trajectory as Recep Tayyip Erdoğan prepares for a historic third term as president within an uncertain economic and geopolitical context.
Erdoğan’s supporters celebrate after an election rally in Istanbul.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently won a historic third term as president of the Republic of Turkey, after defeating opposition candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in alliance with the ultranationalist MHP. As Turkey celebrates its centenary later this year, this victory cements the AKP as the party of permanent rule, while setting the stage for tensions with the West and a reorientation of Türkiye towards the Middle East and Eurasia.

  • Whatis the immediate and medium-term impact of the elections on the Turkish economy?
  • How will the AKP victory shape NATO-member Türkiye’s policies towards Russia and China?
  • How will Türkiye position itself in the face of the current geopolitical détente in the Middle East and North Africa region?
  • What is the impact of Erdoğan’s victory on Turkish policy towards the Kurdish population in Türkiye, as well as in Syria, Iran, and Iraq?
